THE
PHOENIX
HOUSE INC.
Meet the board
Ebony Turner
CEO | Founder
I'm Ebony, the founder of Phoenix House Inc., a non-profit organization on a mission to empower and uplift individuals in our community. The journey to this point was not only inspired by the desire to make a difference but also by a special family moment.
Originally, I had envisioned the organization's name to be "Empowerment of Joy," a concept that resonates deeply with my passion for spreading happiness. However, it was my daughter who had a brilliant idea – "The Phoenix." We added "House" to it, symbolizing the incredible metaphor of rising from the ground up, just like the legendary Phoenix bird. It's a concept that perfectly embodies our mission of helping individuals rebuild their lives and rise from adversity.

Beyond my role as a non-profit founder, I have a profound love for the arts, particularly drawing, which allows me to express the world's beauty and complexity. DIY, arts, and crafts are my creative outlets. Creating things for events, family, and friends brings immense joy to my life.
Interestingly, I've never had a surprise party thrown for me, and it's a secret wish I've held onto until now, fueling my desire to create moments of delight for others through Phoenix House Inc. And when all my children gather at home during the holidays, it's the noise, laughter, and even the occasional sibling arguments that truly warm my heart. Those moments remind me that family and love are the foundations of life, and they motivate me to continue the transformative work we do at The Phoenix House Inc.

JALA POWELL
COFOUNDER | Executive DIRECTOR
As the co-founder and Executive Director of The Phoenix House Inc, I bring a unique blend of experience and passion to our mission. From an early age, I've been on a journey of learning and sharing knowledge. I wrote a book, a testament to my commitment to education and my desire to make an impact. Teaching has been a central part of my life, beginning at the young age of 19. The joy of imparting knowledge and shaping young minds is a responsibility I cherish, and it's a journey I continue to this day.

In my personal journey, I've had the privilege of achieving milestones, such as being the first IPS student to reach the national level of National History Day. This experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for history and its importance in shaping our understanding of the world. On a lighter note, I have a quirky pet peeve – the sound of pen clicking can drive me up the wall! But when I'm not engrossed in my work, you'll often find me on a road trip, savoring the experience of listening to full albums. There's something truly magical about letting the music unfold in its entirety as the miles pass by, and it's a simple pleasure I treasure in the midst of life's complexities.

I became a Communications Officer for The Phoenix House Inc. because I care deeply about the families in our community and I am passionate about serving others.
When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, watching my daughter cheer and my son play football, spending time with all four of my children, getting my granddaughter, and having charcuterie and wine nights with my friends.
